Fantomas is a new sort of criminal, for the time in which the book was written. He is not a gentleman thief, nor does he commit crimes of passion, he seems to kill or steal for enjoyment. Fantomas is a very weird book. It's one of the Prof. Moriarity, Dr. Mabuse, etc. fantasies of a single master criminal at the heart of pre-WWI darkness.
The master criminal, in this case, is brilliantly clever in the execution of his crimes but singularly devoid of motive. Fantomas book pursuer, Detective Inspector Juve, is brilliantly deductive but /5.
Fantomas is the title character but through most of the book it's hard to discern whether he is an actual person or a mythological figure that Juve imagines to be lurking behind every crime.
As the investigations proceed all the crimes start linking together with evidence from one crime pointing to the next and so on/5(45). Fantomas is the name given by the French top police officials to a master criminal so clever that some believe him to be nothing more than a phantom. He is no phantom.
He is diabolical, and as you read deeper into the books, you can't wait to see what his imagination will contrive. He simply plays with the police.
Great fun/5(4). Free kindle book and epub digitized and proofread by Project Gutenberg. Fantômas is a fictional character Fantomas book by French writers Marcel Allain (–) and Pierre Souvestre (–). "In the mode reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes and his ineradicable nemesis, the virtually immortal Professor Moriarty, Inspector Juve dedicates himself to the relentless pursuit of that evil genius Fantomas.
He is, as they say in petrified Paris, "Nothing Everything Nobody Somebody." And what does he do. He "spreads terror," diabolically, craftily beyond all imagining: slashes 4/5(4).

Fantomas by Marcel Allain and Pierre Souvestre, first published in France inis a wonderfully-paced, intriguing murder mystery, that suffers perhaps from being somewhat far-fetched and contrived in.

Fantomas is a Mexican comic book series from the s, adapted from the French novel character sting with the original Diabolical Mastermind, while still technically a criminal, he is presented as a masked hero. Within the comic series the focus of the adventures changed over the years, going from a typical Gentleman Thief, to heavily James Bond-inspired adventures, to.
During the s the Mexican comics publisher Editorial Novaro produced a Fantomas La Amenaza Elegante (Fantomas, the Elegant Threat) comic book series that was popular throughout Latin America. This was apparently meant to be the same character, although rewritten as a heroic character, and with no acknowledgement to the original books or films.

Fantomas does all this 30 years earlier. In the first book, we don't even know who Fantomas is - there is enough textual evidence to suggest that he is not Etienne Rambert-Gurn, that we can never know who he is.
We have only Juve's word for it, and he is constantly admitting that this may be a figment of his imagination.5/5(5). “One episode simply melts away as the next takes over” (The New York Times) in this deliciously sinister turn-of-the-century tale of a French evil genius run rampant.
Three appalling crimes leave all of Paris aghast: the Marquise de Langruen is hacked to death, the Princess Sonia is robbed, a 5/5(1).
